Man Ray
Man Ray (1890 - 1976) is a surrealist artist that loved creating unique sculptures from everyday objects as well as experiment with light photography. Man Ray made his "rayographs" without a camera by placing objects-such as the thumbtacks, coil of wire, and other circular forms used here-directly on a sheet of photosensitized paper and exposing it to light. Because they are negative images, these prints present a strange inversion of visible reality: light produces darkness, and shadows register as white.
