Barnett Newman

Newman, (1905 –1970) like many other Abstract Expressionists of his time, Newman was interested in the spiritual content of abstract art. His huge fields of color and trademark "zips" in his paintings set him apart from the gestural abstraction of many of his peers.

As The Name of this work suggests, Newman created a visual representation of the Hebrew letters used in place of God’s name.
