Artist Statement

Asya is a multimedia, site specific, experiential performance artist appealing to younger audiences and their grown-ups. She  is a self-proclaimed member of the Avant-garde educator movement, known for their bad financial choices and the chase for freedom, the freelancers.

Drawing on the philosophies of Luis Camnitzer, her work centers on the idea of the arts as a means of thinking. In an ongoing series titled “museum education,” she invites the audience comprised of school groups and family units to engage with select works of art deemed most prestigious by old white men. Needing to include a metaphor in her artist statement,  Asya sees museums as both a window to society and a mirror to the self. It is why she chooses these specific sites to perform her work which aims to make the world a better place by promoting compassionate, creative, and critical thinking skills.

In her series inspired by her genetic makeup, Asya creates participatory experiences, referred to as “workshops,” in which she invites the audience to investigate Jewish traditions, ideas, and culture through collaborative dialogue and real time creative process.
She has exhibited for a number of years at the prestigious Cornerstone Waynesboro as well as other group shows.
Instead of having a formal art education, Asya holds a dual B.A. in Psychology and Comparative Religions, and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Hunter College. She received her most valuable education while backpacking around the world.
