GODS OF ANCIENT EGYPT
@ THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART
Parents and kids must work together, learning about the life and culture of ancient Egypt, to complete the challenge and decode a secret message.
Activity is designed for kids 5-9 years old with parent support
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
Print out all the pages before going to the museum.
Remind yourself and children of the rules of the museum.
Use a pencil (no pens, markers, crayons) in the museum galleries to complete the quest.
Once you complete all the activities, use your answers to decode the final passover message.
It doesn't matter in which order you complete the activities in; but it is best to leave the code for last.
There are lots of ways to figure any one of the answers.
For younger kids leave the pages in order and use the attached map. For older kids, mix up the pages, and use the museum map to find the correct galleries.
After you complete the quest, here are some discussion questions for your way home:
- What does the final message mean? Why do you think the Egyptologist left that message? How does it
relate to Passover?
- What was the hardest part of the quest?
- What was easy for you to do?
- What was something you saw that you really liked?
- What else would you like to know about ancient Egypt? Is there something you are
curious about now?
INSTRUCTIONS:
FOLLOW THE GALLERY NUMBER WRITTEN ON EACH PAGE TO FIND EGYPTIAN ARTWORKS THAT WILL HELP YOU SOLVE THE EGYPTOLOGIST'S MESSAGE.
USE THE ANSWERS TO DECODE THE HIEROGLYPHIC CODE.
YOU CAN START FROM ANYWHERE.
HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK!
